Stamped and cut aluminum sheet metal, rivets, pipe.
For my Metals I final, I had to fabricate a handheld-sized object out of aluminum sheet metal. Even though we were making our objects using non-automated processes, we were encouraged to think about repeating shapes and jigs we could use to create our object. I began with a square and experimented how taking away material with the hole punch could give it new possibilities, leading me to the “X”-like shape I repeated to make my final product. I decided to place one inside of the other and allow for a spinning motion, overlaying their patterns.
