This piece was made in collaboration with Neelum Narang and her workshop in Jaipur, India. During my time in India, I noticed the way that ancient architecture interacted with the environment and how this related to craft. An ant crawling across drying fabric is a part of the making process, just as a monkey crawling on a roof is a part of the building. This handmade box depicts an animal sitting atop a minaret which, when pushed down, causes the top to spring open to reveal the storage compartment underneath.
